Berry World

I'm a senior business woman constantly learning and striving to improve and increase our exposure to tourism and locals alike. Originally from Western Australia, I love living and working in Timboon.

Gascom (AU) Pty Ltd

Berry World has existed as a commercial and 'pick your own' strawberry and blackberry farm for 58 years. We purchased it from original owners, Joy and Alan Kerr in 2014. During our tenure we have added the Berry Good Thai restaurant (run by 2 Thai national chefs & 1 Thai cook) and Berry Good Accommodation for holiday makers. In addition, we have 2 ponies, 3 pet sheep and some chickens. Kids (and parents) love to feed the animals as well as run, play and pick strawberries. We also grow veges for the restaurant and have added an orchard of apples, nashis, pears, cherries and raspberries.

Distinguished and Famous people from Griffith

🤝 Donald Mackay

Donald Mackay was born in Griffith in 1933 and returned in 1955 to help run the family furniture business. His community work included Apex, aged accommodation and organisations assisting families and children. He also campaigned against the drug trade. His disappearance from Griffith in July 1977 prompted national concern and major investigations; a coroner later found that he had died from deliberately inflicted gunshot wounds. Remembering his local service as well as his death gives a fuller picture of a businessman whose campaigning carried a terrible cost.

🍇 David Wynn

David Wynn bought a winery and vineyards at Yenda near Griffith in 1959 as he expanded the family wine business. His interests already reached from Melbourne into South Australia, where he had backed Coonawarra despite doubts about the venture. Innovation extended beyond vineyards: he later improved the soft-pack wine container and promoted different wine styles. The Yenda connection is a documented investment in local production, rather than a claim that he was born or permanently resident there. It places the Griffith district within a business career linking regional growing conditions with national marketing and changing drinking habits.

🏏 Bill O’Reilly

Bill O’Reilly taught at Griffith during a sequence of country-school postings that interrupted his access to first-class cricket. Away from the major competitions, he continued refining the deceptive delivery known as the wrong’un. A later move to Sydney allowed his sporting career to gather pace, and he became one of Australia’s leading Test bowlers before taking up a long career in cricket journalism. Griffith’s link is a working classroom appointment, not an invented local championship. His years in teaching show how even an exceptional player had to negotiate transfers, employment and opportunities to play.
